thinking about “happiness” on Earth with 10 billion people
“Picture Happiness on Earth” TSUNAGARI Project begins
Miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation) premiere’s the “Picture Happiness on Earth *TSUNAGARI Project (*1) in September 2015. This project will create opportunities for teenagers from six countries in the Asia-Pacific region (*2) to consider global issues from multiple scientific and ethical perspectives. With support from Bloomberg L.P., which is promoting STEM education, workshops will be held in each country over the course of a few years.
Miraikan started the “TSUNAGARI Project” in 2011 so an individual could discover a personal relationship to this planet of life, and with others, search together for solutions to the challenges facing all life forms in order to assure the sustainability of Earth. The aim of this new project is to carry out these activities in other Asian Pacific countries as well. In collaboration with science centers in six countries, workshops will be developed and held using the “TSUNAGARI tools” (*3). These workshops will provide a place for the participating teenagers to develop an understanding of different value systems and the necessary scientific thinking to solve issues. What is necessary, in order to bring about a future in which 10 billion people can live happily? We will think about this together with those teenagers who are the future, , and communicate the results.
The result of this project and the process followed will be announced at the Science Centre World Summit to be held at Miraikan in 2017. Miraikan will continue to introduce activities to solve issues on a global scale, to act as a center for science communication for the Asia-Pacific region and for the world.

Workshop Overview
Science center educators and teenagers in countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan, will work together to create content for display on the “Geo-Cosmos” (*3-1). The theme of the project is “What is happiness?” The teenagers participating in the workshops will use the “TSUNAGARI tools” that contain various visualizations of scientific data, and seek out happiness for Earth with 10 billion people.
